The Czech film director, Svankamajer (1934) has been one of the undisputed masters of film animation over the last forty years, together with one of the most original figures in modern cinema. His work, which is clearly rooted in Surrealism, is an original exploration of how we imagine everything sinister. Svankmajer, who is a master of metamorphosis, uses poetically the technique of stop-motion to give life to what is inert and transform what is live into something mechanical. His influence over the whole panormama of audiovisual productions has been as vast as it has been anonymous. This cycle is accompanied by a book coordinated by Gregorio Martín Gutiérrez.
